About
GTA performed geotechnical engineering and construction observation and testing services for a new elementary and a new middle school simultaneously being constructed for Green Local Schools district.
The new 134,385-SF elementary school was built on the existing 35.34-acre primary school site on Graybill Road. The existing primary school underwent minor renovations to serve Pre-K through first grade and the new two-story elementary school, to serve grades 2-5, was built directly southeast of the existing building. The new two-story, 184,000-SF middle school building is located on the existing 46.68-acre middle school property on Steese Road.
In the fall, GTA had a dedicated Field Technician working full-time at each school during earthwork and site grading construction. The client elected to cement stabilize the building footprint at both sites in order to continue working through the winter. GTA observed that cement stabilization process. Heavy springtime rains and construction traffic resulted in a layer of saturated surficial soils on top of the stabilized subgrade. To keep the project on schedule, GTA observed removal of the saturated soil and the placement of additional aggregate prior to laying the stone base in the floor slab areas. GTA’s Technicians observed that process and also observed the installation of foundations and floor slabs, including DCP testing, rebar inspection, and concrete testing; performed floor flatness testing and masonry inspection; and coordinated and subcontracted the steel inspection for both school buildings.
