About
GTA performed subsurface exploration, laboratory testing, and engineering analysis for a new middle school building and campus for the Cape Henlopen School District on the former Richard A. Shields Elementary School property in Lewes consisting of approximately 40-acres. GTA provided recommendations for foundation support, slab support, site grading, groundwater control, utility construction, stormwater management and pavement support. The project entails the construction of a new one to three-story school with classrooms, laboratories, administration, library, gymnasium and auditorium. The building footprint is approximately 58,000 square feet with the building construction generally consisting of structural steel framing, elevated concrete floors on steel framing and open web steel roof joists and metal roof deck. Exterior walls have a masonry veneer with a cold-formed steel stud back-up. The campus includes several outbuildings and athletic fields, drive lanes and parking areas, and stormwater management systems. GTA is currently providing construction observation and testing services related to earthwork construction. GTA is also providing Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Certified Construction Reviewer (CCR) related services for sediment and erosion control during project construction.
