About
GTA is providing environmental consulting and COT services for Atlantic Realty Development Corp. during the 80-acre residential/commercial redevelopment of a former industrial property located in Ewing, New Jersey. Historically, the site operated as a manufacturing plant for General Motors (GM), which produced automobile window regulators. During World War II, the 1.1-million-SF plant became Eastern Aircraft Corporation, and carrier-based Avenger Bombers were built at the site in support of the U.S. Navy during the war efforts. The plant was producing automotive moldings, power-painted exterior products, and power seat adjusters when it closed in 1998. The buildings were subsequently demolished. GTA’s involvement with the site began in 2013 with a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) and expanded into the oversight of soil. GTA’s efforts have included concrete remediation/reuse application, management of non-hazardous and hazardous soils, and the design/installation of vapor mitigation systems. GTA’s COT division was brought into the project as construction began and has been providing Third Party Special Inspection services including the observation and testing of about 6,000 Auger Pressure Grouted piles installed for deep foundation systems. The development, to be built in five phases, is planned to include 1,184 residential rental units, 94,750 SF of retail, 14,375 SF of offices, and a 10,000-SF clubhouse.
