About
GTA provided construction observation testing and special inspection services associated with the construction of a new 198,000-SF, mid-rise independent senior living facility located on 13 acres in Cary, Wake County, North Carolina. The construction of the 5-story assisted living facility included two-levels (one-level below grade) of cast-in-place concrete construction with a podium slab, with three-levels of timber framing above, associated site retaining walls, underground stormwater detention facility, and asphalt surface parking.
During construction, GTA provided construction observation testing and Special Inspection services including earthwork observation, retaining wall construction observation, soil laboratory testing, and soil compaction testing. Due to the challenging soil conditions at the site, GTA provided soil stabilization recommendations including the use of high-strength geotextiles to help minimize undercut/import volumes associated with site grading activities, resulting in significant cost savings for the owner. Additionally, GTA provided foundation soil bearing capacity testing for footings, fluid concrete testing, sampling, curing, and compressive strength testing for footings, slabs, and below grade walls, reinforced masonry construction observations, and timber framing observations.
